January in Malibu, CA Include Homes Sales And Unusual Events Such As The Malibu Road Brush Fire And Snow

Malibu beachfront homes destroyed by brush fire and then experience snow the following week and still managed to have 10 home sales for the month.

Malibu received much recognition in January 2007 from the eleven Malibu Road beach front homes destroyed by a brush fire on Monday evening, January 8th [see additional details in the Malibu Surfside News - January 11, 2007 edition, pages 2 and 3] as well as all major news stations "live" during the event.  Malibu community immediately offered support and encouragement to those who lost their homes.

The following week Malibu topped the news again when it experienced snow for the first time in decades on January 17, 2007 in the higher elevations as evidenced by the photos published in the Malibu Surfside News- January 25, 2007 edition, front page and page 13.  All the major news stations made this remarkable announcement –I must agree, where else can you enjoy the beach and the snow at the same time?  It was a chilly January for the Malibuiites.

So how was the housing activity in January? According to the statistics provided by the Combined L.A./Westside MLS, Inc., in the Malibu land area, 10 homes closed escrow — total sales volume in 2007 was $21,764,999 as compared to January 2006 total sales volume in 2006 at $44,331,000.  The average selling price on the January 2007 was $2,176,499 and the average days on market was 160 days.

Does this mean it is good for buyers to continue to lurk and wait to take any actions? Well, no — remember, this is just an average — there were 2 properties that were on the market over 460 days but there was also a great buy that was taken after just 17 days on the market.

Come view and live the Malibu life.  The weather is great today - sunny, light breeze — 60 degrees.  I would welcome you to experience the Malibu life - contact Judy Kunisaki at (310) 317-8396.
