Discussion of Current Malibu Leases and Summer Lease Opportunities for both Malibu beachfront and Malibu land area.

It is not too early to start thinking about leasing a one month summer beach home in Malibu, California. The prime months are July, August and September so the single month rates are highest that period.  Malibu, California is a very desirable for a summer lease — after all, the popular 1960’s beach movies were filmed here as well as American Pie 2, Rockford File series, Diagnosis Murder series, and many others. 

I was reminded of it again when I watched the movie "Spanglish" with Penelope Cruz, Tea Leoni and Adam Sandler.  It was filmed directly from an actual home on Carbon Beach, also known as Billionaire’s beach.

Based on the data from the Combined L.A./Westside MLS, Inc., in January 2007, 4 beach front units were leased - for a total monthly lease of $56,000. In February 2007, 8 beach front units were leased - for a total monthly lease of $86,000.

In the Malibu, California land area, there were 14 units leased in January 2007 for the total monthly lease of $38,100.  In February 2007, there were 13 units leased for the total monthly lease of $29,750. 

Seasonal beach leases are already on the market — 59 units available as of March 2nd with prices ranging from $5,500 per summer month for a 1 bedroom to $85,000 per summer month for a 3 bedroom house in the desirable guard gated Malibu Colony.  Some months are already taken as some owners have reserved July or August from last year. 

On the Malibu land area, there are 15 units available as of March 2nd with prices ranging from $13,000 summer month for a 4 bedroom house to $45,000 summer month rate for a 5 bedroom house.
