Plans for the new park in West Malibu have been unveiled today and look likely to go ahead.
The preliminary plans are to develop 13 acres on the east side of Trancas Canyon Road and include a sports field, a dog park and many picnic areas to enjoy Malibu’s enviable climate.
The Parks and Recreation Commission will review the plans and if the process goes well the park could be open by the fall of 2008.
The sports field would use natural grass and cover around 2 acres, it could be used for Soccer, T-Ball and softball, amongst other sports. – There has been some disagreement over using natural grass as many people would prefer synthetic turf. However budget considerations mean that natural grass is the preferred choice.
Along with an access road for the facility a 58 space car parking facility would also be constructed.
The total cost of the development at this stage is estimated to be around $3.1million with the City having planned to contribute around $665,000 towards the cost of construction.
This development goes before the commission for approval and its outcome will be closely watched.
