Malibu California Community News: City Council Votes on Water Plant

Malibu City Council voted to delay the wastewater treatment facility until the Lumber Yard Mall opens. This comes after numerous internal discussions between the council and the regional water management district and it appears that the relationship has broken down.

The Regional Board will vote next month on the possiblilty of terminating the 2004 agreement on waste water permitting which would mean that all waste water methods would require a permit from the water board. Including residentil septic tanks. This is of course a concern to Malibu Residents.

The Lumber Yard Mall’s waste water usage would currently fall under the required level for the board to have a say and so would come under the city’s remit. The longer the project takes the more strained the relationship between the city and the regional board becomes.
