Malibu California Real Estate: Shake Up To Real Estate In California

Starting January 2009 there will be shake up in Real Estate rules in California.

This shake up is long overdue according to many, a slight change to the real estate law will require licensed real estate agents to disclose their license number on their marketing materials/first contact correspondance with clients.

This change is the child of Sente Bill 1461, which defines first contact materials as business cards, advertising flyers, stationery etc! The requirement had been attempted to be passed previously, but the Governor has vetoed the changes on unrelated matters and did ask the house to propose the law change itself as he is in favor of it. He signed it into law for effect on January 1st 2009 on September 25th 2008.

Also, in addition to first contact materials, the law change will also require the number to appear on real estate contracts – although there is a space currently on C.A.R. (California Association of Realtors) contracts already, the obligation to fill in the space is only voluntary. This prevents the unlawful payment to an unlicensed entity for Real Estate services.

Definately a great change for the Real Estate industry in California!
