If you are selling your home in Malibu or the surrounding area then you probably have heard many tips to help you sell your home in an market, let alone a challenging one. However MSNBC Financial Guru, Laura T. Coffey has come up with a great tip ten tips to help you sell your home. Here they are summarized for you:

  • Organize your home by de-cluttering. Pack up the knickknacks, pictures, piles of paper and furniture that makes the place look crowded. Organize the garage, install custom closet space and really be ruthless! (If you haven’t used it in 6 months, lose it!) For those sentimental, you can rent a storage unit to store all of your clutter if you cannot bear to part with it!
  • Let the light in. Take down any heavy drapes and clean the windows for a great effect.
  • Clean and Clean some more!. Shampoo soiled carpets, Scrub the front door. Repaint scuffed walls. Tidy up the lawn and trim the shrubs. Do not leave any surface untouched! A clean home is a happy home and buyers really do notice.
  • Finally finish the “honey do” list. Fix everything that is in need of repair – make sure you are thorough, a good home inspector will notice jobs which are incomplete.
  • Enhance the view.Erect a fence or plant shrubbery to improve or obscure the view of unattractive nearby properties or streets. If you have a great view, why wouldn’t you want to take advantage of it? It’s what made you buy the property in the first place, right?
  • Have an Open House on a Weeknight – Holding an open house on Wednesday may attract a different crowd from the usual weekend buyers. It may yield a great result for you!
  • Ask for criticism from all. Consult with buyers’ agents for their feedback and talk to your agent to see where you can improve the areas of criticism.
  • Go out. When your home is being shown, do not hover, let the agent do their job, by leaving the buyers agent to talk with their client, they can talk more freely without fear of being overheard.
  • Rent to own. Give a potential buyer a little credit. Becoming a landlord may keep you from having to shoulder two mortgages. This is a great way of getting the result you want possibly faster than you expected.
  • Drop the asking price. Talk to your agent about this option, they will be able to advise you of the best course of action.
