The 28th Annual Chili Cook Off in Malibu and Carnival, hosted by the Kiwanis Club, will take place September 4th-7th. However, this is the last time the event will operate at its original location as the site is in the middle of the future Legacy Park site in the Civic Center area, which is slated to start construction later this fall.
Central to the chili cook-off dynamic, asides from the many gallons of Chili itself, is the roster of live music, playing from noon till 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. This year’s line up features several Malibu artists.
The Kiwanis Club of Malibu has raised more than $4 million for the local community over the years, most of which have gone to benefit youth programs in the area.
However as this event does traditionally mark the “end of summer” in Malibu, it gives a chance to reflect on the Real Estate market in the area over the year so far.
Nearly 500 homeowners in Malibu have attempted to sell their home so far this year and through August, only about 50 of the homeowners will have successfully closed escrow on their homes. 10 of the 50 home sellers this year managed to sell their home using their initial asking price. What must be remembered is that the numbers are among single-family homes only, excluding mobile homes and condos in the 90265 ZIP code, among approximately 4,200 homes that actually exist.
