There is little which sums up the Californian Dream more than a summer drive along the Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu in a convertible with the radio playing out the sounds of The Beach Boys.

This ready to go guide is a great way for those who know little about the area to explore the coast and have a great time stopping at interesting places along the way. Even if you live in the area this could be a great “stay-cation” idea. Total distance is only 49 miles and it will take between 1 and 1.5 hours to complete – depending on how many stops you make (at Getty Villa for instance) – you could make a day or even a weekend of it if you wish!

As they state: “You’ll find plenty of nice beaches along the way, good spots for a picnic or a walk. State Parks charge an entrance fee that may seem a bit steep for a quick stop, but areas marked Beach Access are free”

What a great way to have a day out – they even suggest turning the route into a loop and making a whole day of it with detours. Just remember to drive safe.

It is all happening in Malibu!

The long awaited Lumberyard Mall is just days away from opening. The project has been years in the making and finally the developers Richard Weintraub and Richard Sperber will at last celebrate the ribbon cutting will take place at 9:30 a.m. Saturday with the official opening set for Tuesday, April 21 where, in addition to the developers there will be a host of celebrities there including David Spade and Matthew McConaughey.

The Lumberyard mall is opening with 15 retail and food establishments and they are as follows: Cafe Habana, MILK, Adrianna Shamaris; Maxfield, Tory Burch, Intermix, James Perse, alice + olivia, J.Crew, Kitson Men, Planet Blue Kids and Theory; and Crumbs Bake Shop. There will also be a family-style restaurant is planned for upstairs with sweeping views of the Pacific Coast Highway.

The Trancas Country Market has news of its own. It is looking to expand its existing building space by 37,000 square feet, and possibly add another 11,000 square feet by 2012! It is inviting Malibu businesses to move into the development. The expansion and renovation plan calls for a 37,372 square foot addition to existing buildings on the 14-acre shopping center with ground breaking for the development starting as early as this fall, subject to the planning commissions blessing.

With all of this development occurring in Malibu it is no wonder people want to relocate to the area!

Newly remodelled Point Dume Village now features 25,000 square feet of space and a new upscale market "The Pavilions" which replaces Cookes Family Market which closed two years ago. Many are anxiously awaiting the reopening of the Las Flores Creek Park where picnikers have enjoyed the surroundings for years! The revampt park is scheduled to reopen in March giving users improved facilities such as new rest rooms, play areas and picnic tables.

The walking trails boast improved signage – tip: These make a great afternoon out for the kids during the holidays! – and the whole park has had a $3.8 million facelift!

The park is a quarter mile up Las Flores Canyon Road off of the Pacific Coast Highway and gives users that great "tucked away" feel.

When this section of the park opens in a few weeks this will mean completion of phase one of the redevelopment project. Phase two will of course then get underway!

With the battle with the further round of wildfires continuing today, the efforts have lead to officials to be forced to close certain roads in the area.

As reported by the LA Times on Sunday the Pacific Coast Highway was to be closed between Malibu Canyon Road through to the Paradise Cove area – no doubt this will cause major delays as other routes including Corral Canyon, Latigo Canyon and Kanan Dume roads, remain closed.

Law enforcement officials are requesting identification for residents who need to get to property in the following areas: Latigo Shores, Escondido Beach, Paradise Cove, Ramirez Canyon and Point Dume.

With the fight ongoing it is hoped that this situation will improve as more roads will re-open.
